15 highly addictive binge-worthy TV series to start now

I’ve had A LOT of time on my hands since I’ve been unemployed and during the lockdown. There’s no better way for me to pass the time between Zoom quizzes and applying for jobs than watching TV.

I love a great TV series which I can binge but also a series which is so good that I can revisit it again in the future.

I’ve been watching some old, new and highly addictive TV series over the last few months. So if you’re looking for something new to get into check out all these great series below. All great to watch over a few days, weeks or see you at the end of lockdown 3 (or the end of 2021).

BRIDGERTON

Let’s start with the BIGGEST Netflix show now EVER. I wasn’t too keen at first. Romance Period Drama? Not my taste but I’m glad I gave it a go because it’s an incredible show to watch. Think more of a raunchy Gossip girl in the 1800s.

WATCH ON NETFLIX

NEW AMSTERDAM

I saw an advert for this years ago and was like…oh look…its that guy from Lost? Over that. But it’s not Matthew Fox! This Medical drama is completely different from any other show I’ve seen. All the characters are so loveable, each episode has a great storyline and has one of the best cliff-hangers I’ve ever seen on TV.

THIS IS US

I was very late to the game on this show. Premiered in 2016 and a stack of Awards later, I thought I’d give it a go. After the first episode, I was hooked! I must have caught up with all 5 series in 2 weeks. Addictive TV!

THE HANDMAIDS TALE

One of my favourite TV series ever! It’s set in a time where woman are struggling to get pregnant and the ones that can, are rounded up and made into handmaids. It’s a terrifying reality with an incredible heroic lead starring Elisabeth Moss. There’s 3 series so far with a 4th on the way this year!

LOVE LIFE

This is a kooky little series starring my favourite Bella “Anna Kendrick”. Set over a decade or so, showing one girl’s dating history. Relationships, breakups, break downs and finding love…again and again. It’s very realistic and the ending is….kind of perfect.

ITS A SIN

OMG! This series blew me away. Set in the 80s following the journey of a group of friends as they discover the truth about the secret AIDS virus no one is really talking about or quite understands? It’s one of those TV shows which will stay with me forever. Great story and a bloody great cast!

THE FALL

This psychological crime drama series was filmed in 2013 but has only really started trending now. It’s 3 series and stars the fabulous Gillian Anderson, as well as the beautiful Jamie Dornan. It’s a hunt for a sexually driven serial killer hiding a double life. It’s a great watch!

WATCH ON NETFLIX

OUR GIRL

This British Army drama series was another late one for me which I picked up in lockdown 1. The first series stars Lacey Turner and 2-4 stars Michelle Keagan. The first series is probably the best but I do like the continuing storyline too.

WATCH ON BBC IPLAYER

BROADCHURCH

I started watching this for the first time in Lockdown 3. I wanted to watch it when it came out but I fell victim to Gogglebox spoilers. I’m glad I picked this up because it truly shows how incredible Olivia Colman and David Tennant are as actors and acting together.

If you like this I would also recommend “Des” and “Deadwater Fell” which are Crime dramas with David Tennant too.

WATCH ON BRITBOX

THE MORNING SHOW

This was worth the subscription (or free trial if still available). Other than Greyhound starring Tom Hanks, The Morning Show is the only thing I watched on Apply TV. I honestly can’t wait for another series.

Set around the “Me too” movement with beloved morning tv presenters and the chaos it’s creates on and offset. Jennifer Aniston gives a performance of a lifetime!

WATCH ON APPLE TV

DEXTER

Make tonight the night! Here’s a show where you route for the bad guy. Doesn’t happen very often but it’s done so well. It’s about a man who is a serial killer and his detective father helps him with his urges, but also to keep him safe and not get caught.

To top things off, he gets a job with the police as a blood splatter analyst which makes things more interesting as he solves cases but kills people on his time off.

Oh, and one more thing…he’s coming back for another series!

RU PAUL’S DRAG RACE

Start your engines! This show is fabulous. Filled with fun, laughter, competition, snatch games, tucking, realness, fashion and emotional stories.

The UK now has it’s 2nd series and lets me spill the tea…the UK show is so much better the US series 13 show! The shade!!!! Shantay you all stay!

WATCH ON NETFLIX (USA VERSION) OR ON BBC IPLAYER (UK VERSION)

THE CIRCLE

This is my favourite game show right now. It’s like a modern Big Brother but the contestants don’t see each other. It shows the fun but dark side to social media, in an exciting way. You can be anyone in the circle, so who would you be?

WATCH ON ALL 4 (UK VERSION) OR ON NETFLIX (USA VERSION)

WALKING DEAD

CAAAARRRRLLLLLL! This show should have stopped 2 series ago but it’s still going. I like to reminisce on the series before it went bad. The farm, the prison, even the start to Alexandria. I feel obliged to continue watching as I know it’s finally coming to an end and there are movies coming soon too….with Andrew Lincoln starring in them all!

GAME OF THRONES

One of the best series of our time! It’s was a phenomenon and unlike Walking Dead...they knew when to quit! If you haven’t seen this incredible show yet, I envy you! 8 series of pure action, drama and dragons await you!

Some of these I love and some I haven’t seen. Dexter is on the to watch list. I’d definitely also include Scandal and Outlander.
