Who would have thought my Netflix recommendations would be back after I announced my leap into full-time travel blogging?
Due to the pandemic travel is on standstill and my normal travel schedule won’t be back to normal for a while. As much as this pains me, I do miss writing about films and TV so there’s a silver lining.
We’ve all been watching a lot of TV in lockdown and now lockdown 2 has started, what’s good to watch? But also, what shouldn’t you waste your time on!
Netflix films and shows you should avoid
I wasn’t a massive fan of trending show Ratched. I had a lot of suggestions from people to give it a go and I spent a few episodes on it but nothing to make me stick around. It’s has a good plotline but I just found it really boring.
I found the first series of Dirty John absolutely brilliant but Dirty John: Betty felt less thrilling. It’s hard to criticise this one because it’s based on a true story but some stories just aren’t made for TV. An example of something that should have been left as a singular series.
Adam Sandler is back with Hubie Halloween and it’s just AWFUL. I think it’s fair to say Sandler has lost his magic and now just producing films sub-par to pay the rent.
Best Netflix films and shows from October
The Haunting of Bly Manor
Halloween might be over but it doesn’t mean you can’t watch the scariest tv shows of the year. After the success of Hill House, the cast are back with another scary story about another haunted house. Even the voice of Pepper Pig joins the cast. Creepy kid.
Get Organized with the Home Edit
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know how obsessed I am with this show. I was even on their stories recently!? A show about creativity, organization and productivity….my OCD loved this show!
60 days in
This show is crazy!? They send in a bunch of non-criminals to go undercover in county jail to find out what really happens, where drugs come in and basically become moles. It’s really interesting but seriously dangerous.
The Social Dilemma
Addicted to your phone? No? Think again? Everyone needs to watch this documentary!
I wasn’t really into this film at first but it’s got a great message behind it. It’s a great adventure film for young women everywhere.
Emily in Paris
From the makers of Sex in the City, brings a sassy new TV series. More of a Devil wears Prada vibe with the wittiness of Sex in the City. Be aware it’s very social media focused. Lily Collins starts off quite annoying but grows on you.
Michael McIntyre Showman
Everyone needs a laugh this lockdown and Michael McIntyre is your man.
Another Lily Collins film? Yes, this girl is taking over. However, this film is more around the superb acting of Simon Pegg. He’s the one to watch here.
I love a cheesy Netflix Romcom and this has all the elements you want. It’s a great dating film with a a lot of laughs. One of my fav romcoms in a while.
The Umbrella Academy
The second series is here and it’s actually a lot better than expected. There’s something about this superhero series which is unique, interesting and keeps you gripped every episode. Plus Robert Sheehan is my fav!
The Trial of Chicago 7
A true story. A courtroom drama. Eddie Redmayne. Yes, yes, yes!
Each story (expect the alien one) is filled with suspense, drama and leaves everyone asking…WHAT HAPPENED?! They’re really stories and it’s incredibly annoying and heartbreaking for the families who still don’t know what happened to these people. Hopefully, this show will help with these cases. Someone must know something!?
The Queens Gambit
Who knew chess would be so thrilling. This Chess series is one of my favourite series over the last few months and is now one of the best Sports shows on Netflix…ever. Worth a watch!
A Christmas film already??? Yes, it’s started. But it’s quite light as it’s mixed with holidays across the year, not just Christmas. Another great romcom but you can obviously see what’s going to happen but there are so many proper laughs out loud moments. The Dirty dancing scene still makes me snort-laugh.
It’s hard to describe this thriller without giving the plot away. It’s got a “Room” type feel as this girl is kept hidden away for years but has a weird twist.
What’s on in November
Operation Christmas Drop will be one of the first of a long line of Christmas films hitting Netflix next month. The run-up to Christmas is here. Excited?
The Crown Season 4 is finally here, and it’s the much-anticipated story of Princess Diana. It will be really fascinating to see The Crowns version of these events.
I loved Christmas Chronicles and this year we get a sequel to this festive movie. Kurt Russell is a great Santa! What do you think?
