BEST FILMS AND SHOWS ON NETFLIX IN 2019

untitled-design-4.png

Last year, was an excellent year for Netflix. I struggled to narrow down my favourite Netflix shows and films to at least 10 each. This year, I have an odd problem. I have too many TV shows that I loved and refuse to narrow the list down and not enough good Netflix films to make a top 10.

Instead, I’m going to highlight the films and shows that deserve to be watched, no matter how many are in each list. I also just don’t care. The power of owning your own blog.

BEST NETFLIX FILMS OF 2018

THE IRISHMAN

I hear you. Oh no, not that dreadfully long film. Yes, that film. That long film which is also a great piece of work and beautifully told. Watch it. Book a day off if you must.

MARRIAGE STORY

I was getting major love story vibes from the trailer, only to find out it’s going to be a real tear jerker of divorce. What?! Took me a while to get round to it as a child of divorce but it’s a lovely film. Award winning worthy? We’ll see.

MIDNIGHT SUN

I loved this movie. Not just for it’s good rom com story line of a girl who can’t go out in sun light (no she’s not a vampire), or the really likable and hilarious characters but also for Patrick Schwarzenegger people! Bella Thorne is definitely the star but just lots of great reasons to love this film.

6 UNDERGROUND

Wow! This film came out of nowhere. It has an intense action packed, non stop, first 10-15 minutes. It can be a real head spin and you really need to concentrate or you’ll miss everything. It’s very mission impossible with a political twist, and Ryan Reynolds character having a hint of Tony Stark. Good movie. Hope there’s another soon.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

FRACTURED

Sam Worthington brings us a great physiological thriller before we don’t see him again till the new Avatar movies hits our screens. Fractured has a lot of twists and turns. Not to mention Sam isn’t bad to watch for 2 hours.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

I AM MOTHER

I spent all year waiting for a decent Sci Fi film to come to Netflix and I am Mother was perfect…and the only Sci Fi movie to make this list. It’s post apocalyptic and about a young girls journey with a robot who’s job is to re populate the earth.

THE PERFECT DATE

Netflix are really impressing me with two genres in the last few years. Christmas movies, and Rom Coms. Rom Coms are a dying breed in cinemas. No one goes to the cinema with their girl mates to watch the latest “chick flick” any more. Probably because of the term “chick flick“. Keep making cheesy rom coms Netflix. We need them!

BEST NETFLIX SHOWS OF 2018

UNBELIEVABLE

It’s a weird feeling to be invested in a show which is incredibly hard to watch. Based on a true story, this series is a must watch. It’s a horrible story but very addictive as you need to see how this poor girls story develops.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

60 DAYS IN

Innocent people go undercover in a County Jail….WHAT?! This is the most mad TV show I’ve ever seen. Who would want to do this? And one of them needs psychiatric help!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK

It’s all over…and it ended just as I thought it would, me crying my eyes out!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

THE SOCIETY

Now this was an interesting one. It took me a while to get into it but after a few episodes I was hooked. It’s got a LOST vibe but more of the exciting mystery vibe we enjoyed at the beginning before everyone started getting annoyed. I need answers!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA

Sabrina, the young adult witch. I love this new dark version of Sabrina and the story is good but I do get a little lost sometimes. It reminds me more of the series where they just did random episodes which have nothing to do with the main story line just to keep it going. Still it’s fun to watch and I love the aunties. Harvey is a bit of a drip though…

ADD TO YOUR LIST

OUR PLANET

Sir David Attenborough comes to Netflix. Hurrah! This spectacular show on subscription to showcase some of the best cinematography of Planet Earth’s incredible wildlife, with an epic voice over to match.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

RUPAUL DRAG RACE

Gentlemen, start your engines! Having Ru Paul’s Drag Race on Netflix is great to have on in the background or have on downloads for the commute. I laugh so much and get so invested in the show. Snatch game is just everything!

FYRE: THE GREATEST PARTY THAT NEVER HAPPENED

Definition of a s**t show. Brilliant documentary about the power of social media and fraudster. I still can’t believe this actual happened.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY

I can’t wait for the next series of this show and luckily for me it’s coming in 2020! It’s got all my favourite elements, good characters, interesting plot, family, superheros, a talking monkey, everything.  More please!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

TIDYING UP WITH MARIE KONDO

My room has never looked so tidy after watching this show. I can see all my clothes in my draws at the same time. My anxiety when looking for clothes to wear has decreased. It brings me so much Joy!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE

One of my favourites of the year. Seriously, I’ve watched this series maybe 6 times over. I can’t get enough. I’ve always loved Jim Henson’s puppets since I was a kid and I was counting down the days for this show to be released. It’s an incredible piece of work and amazing to watch.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

13 REASONS WHY

When you think after Hannah’s death they should just stop there, they come up with a new story line. Not once but twice. I thought the finale of series 2 was a bit risky but season 3 was addictive. Very sad though. One of the most depressing shows on Netflix.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

STRANGER THINGS

Here it is. Apparently, the 2nd most watched show on Netflix in 2019. I definitely thought it would be the first. I’ve watched this series so many times. What can I say, it’s great for flights and the music is great to fall asleep too. I can’t wait for the next series. The kids are growing up so fast!

ADD TO YOUR LIST

QUEER EYE

The fab five are back with 2 new series this year. I wasn’t a massive fan of the Tokyo version with the model tag a long but I loved the standard series as always.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

BLACK MIRROR

Black Mirror went all Hollywood on us this year but I did like every episode. This completely excludes the messed up Bandersnatch which caused me horrendous anxiety. Who wants to make decisions while watching a TV Show??

ADD TO YOUR LIST

YOU

Hello You! Joe is back with a new name and wondering the city of Los Angeles. This time he has his stalkerish eyes on a woman called “Love” (yes I know!) but we do see the return of Candice which made gripping viewing too.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

LOST IN SPACE

I was prepared to absolutely hate the first series but after a surprisingly intense and entertaining first episode, I was hooked. This left me dying for the next series. The family are an annoying bunch of over achievers but that’s half the comedy. They have a real bond, a crazy manipulative villain, a friendly alien bodyguard robot and each episode is just as good as the last. Now a highly anticipated wait for the next one.

ADD TO YOUR LIST

THE WITCHER

So apparently, The Witcher is the most watched TV Show of the year according to the Insider. Personally, I thought it would be Stranger Things. The Witcher is pretty amazing thought. It’s more for gamers and people who love fantasy genre if you were to really understand it.

The series really does feel like story sections from playing a game and the action sequences are pretty incredible. Then we have Henry Cavill giving me Orlando Bloom vibes from LOTRs with those long locks. He really is other worldly.
