7 NEW NETFLIX RECOMMENDATIONS | NOVEMBER 2019

unbelievable

It’s been 2 months since my last update and I’ve had a lot of Netflix to catch up on. I’ve been away exploring but in true fashion I took my Netflix with me. What else am I supposed to do on those long flights and drives? Look out the window? Please.

So don’t mind me, just going to rant about all the films and shows I wasted my time on first before we get to the good stuff. My loss of time and life, is your gain.

Firstly, on the “Hell no” list is Tall Girl. I had high hopes for this teen flick but it turned out to be absolutely ridiculous. The whole kiss scene was just absurd! This could of turned out to be a great high school film for the kid who feel the odd one out but it was ruined by a ridiculous plot line.

Bit of a risky one for the no list as I know quite a few people who liked it, but I’ve got to say Criminal just didn’t grab my attention. I was actually quite bored. The fact it doesn’t move from the one room was really hard to keep interested. Sorry. Not for me. There are a lot better cop series on Netflix.

Living with Yourself feels like I’ve seen it before. Yes, I love Paul Rudd but that isn’t enough to keep my interested for 8 episodes. It’s not very funny (most of the best bits are in the trailer anyway), the plot is weak and I don’t really care what happens next. Switched off a few episodes in. Sorry Paul.

There’s more….! Next we have Raising Dion. As soon as I saw a floating ghost like Michael B Jordan I was out. Another been there seen that film but much poorer quality.

The highly anticipate El Camino is next on the NO list. Yes, the NO list. I loved Breaking Bad but this spin off film was MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTING. It was so boring. Really boring! Nothing really happened. Glad I didn’t pay to watch that at the cinema. Just lost some life rather than money.

The I-Island was on my list of shows to look forward to in my last Netflix recommendations post. I was again disappointed. It’s a mixture of Lost and Hunger Games with a Fyre Fest trailer. It’s weird, not very entertaining, confusing and really disappointing considering Kate Bosworth stars in it too.

OK, last few to avoid.

In the Tall Grass is based on the Stephen King thriller. Is it scary? Sometimes. Is there suspense? Kind of. Is it predictable? Oh yes.  I bet the book was better. I wish I read it before watching the Netflix version.

Wounds is just a hot mess. It feels like it’s going somewhere. Cast is OK. Then….? Weirdness. Having watched the whole movie, I still don’t quite understand what happened.

A romcom. YAY! Then you watch Holiday in the Wild with such promise just to be let down. Kristin Davis proves shes just a one trick pony as her character is like every other role she’s ever played. The plot isn’t great despite the beautiful settings. Who really cares about a rich woman who goes to Africa to find herself?

I might have cut this one off a bit short but The hole in the Ground just wasn’t working for me? It great to see an Irish horror movie for a change but the pace was too slow and I couldn’t see where the story was going. Not enough jumpy moments or build I expect a horror to have.

OK! Now for the good stuff. Promise!

UNBELIEVABLE

This is such a great series but massively disturbing and horrifying. It really shows you how bad the system can be. I was gripped throughout the whole series and binge the whole thing in a few days. I still can’t believe this is based on a true story. My top recommendation for the month.

FRACTURED

Before we lose Sam Worthington to the whole of Avatar for a few years, he brings us a stellar performance in this Netflix thriller. His daughter has an accident and takes her to hospital, but during this hospital visit his daughter and wife go missing?! It’s pretty intense with lots of twists and turns.

60 DAYS IN

I was addicted to this series, and then got my housemate addicted to it too. Then we found out there’s more series to come which gets me really excited for another binge. It’s about a few innocent people being locked up in county jail as moles. It’s so intense!!

ELI

The first few minutes of this film and I’ve got instant Bubble Boy flashbacks but it’s not funny and it’s quite a thrill ride. What’s up with this kid? He gets taken to a facility to sure him and it’s all very mysterious. Not spoilers but WHAT AN ENDING?!?

ARCTIC

This is a great survivor story and displays a true strength of humanity. Considering the entire film has hardly any dialog and is mostly one character throughout, it’s a great story. Let’s face it, the Arctic isn’t bad to look at either. What a stunning movie.

MARIANNE

It’s been a while since I pitched a foreign film. Blame the dyslexia for the that lack of film content but Marianne was quite enjoy able to watch and read. Yes, there are subtitles but what In the Tall Grass and Wounds lacks, Marianne has it. Screams, running, death and a spooky murderous ghost. What’s not to love. Yes, I know the subtitles. Get over it.

SURROUNDED

A shark film? In the what to watch category? Have I lost my mind? No. Heard me out. Shark films can go one of three ways. They can be really good like Jaws, they can be AWFUL like The Meg or they can be so bad but still good.

Surrounded is the third option. Bad CGI sharks, but lots of people get eaten and it’s pretty intense in parts. Lots of stupidity to be expected it works.
