I’m back from nearly a month away in Alaska and there’s nothing better than a good Netflix binge to catch up on all the shows I’ve been missing out on. I’ve been out in the middle of nowhere, with no WiFi and no Netlfix. However, I did have one day where I had to download the new series of Stranger Things. Priorities.
There were quite a few shows which didn’t make the cut this month and where quite frankly a waste of life.
Firstly, Always Maybe which is quite frankly boring and irrelevant. The story is quite frankly a rich girls story which I just don’t care about and the characters are so unlikeable. Nah. Next.
I was quite excited by the news of a new Adam Sandler film but Murder Mystery felt like it was just a joke, and not in a good way. It wasn’t funny, it wasn’t original and it was sort of thrown together. Just an excuse for Sandler and Ainston to have a nice working holiday if you ask me.
Secret Obsession is a kidnapping thriller story where you can predict the whole film in a few mintues. Such a shame.
Swiped is demoralizing and reduces woman to unnamed objects. The worst part is the woman in the film are OK with this? Hell no. It’s downgrading to woman everywhere and should never have been made into a film. Shame on you Netflix!
Here’s some of the films and shows I loved this month:
As I said, I couldn’t wait till my return to the UK to catch up on the latest series of Stranger Things. I found the only WIFI I could to download series 3 in the deepest sticks of Alaska…and it was worth it!
This show surprises me every single time. I think every series, ah this is never going to be as good as the last series but somehow they keep the levels on par! What a show! What a cast! What a story! This is why I subscribe to Netflix.
YAAAASSS QUEEEENNNNS! The fab 5 are back and bring more amazing makeovers. This show is just incredible and now EMMY WINNING! Yes, that’s right.
What I love the most about this show is that it’s not just an external make over but internal too. Sorting out real issues people are dealing with including loneliness, racism, bullying and PTSD. Real stuff. I found this season more relateable to my own life too. The tips and advice go beyond the individual on the show. They’ve helped me without being in my home.
WHAT / IF
Renee….you manipulating queen you. What a show. Honestly, when I saw the trailer I thought it was going to be another miss. Boring. A dud. However, Renee’s performance BLEW ME AWAY. What a devilish woman.
Renee’s character is the thing that sells this for me. The husband is pretty hot too.
I AM MOTHER
Sci Fi goals! It’s been a while since Netflix brought a decent Sci Fi to the table and I am Mother does the trick.
It’s set in a bunker where a single robot is tasked with making human beings. Post apocalyptic to save the human race. Her bunker is triggered and starts off with making one baby for practice who then grows up curious about her role and outside the bunker. It’s a great film!
Black Mirror is back and has had a Hollywood makeover. Is the British Audience not good enough for you anymore? Either way. Netflix bring us 3 new stories, all equally amazing.
The Mylie Cyrus episode is particularly Hollywood but she’s said in several interviews that it was written for her about her transition from Hannah Montana. It’s pretty spot on apparently except the extreme moments hopefully.
ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK
It’s finally time to say goodbye to the show that kicked off Netflix’s popularity. It’s been a enjoyable long road with these inmates. We’ve laughed, cried and now I’m struggling to finish the series. Not due to time but because once it’s over, it’s really over.
AUGUST ON NETFLIX
There’s only 2 shows I’m really excited about for next month. First up is the new series of Glow which is about the Glamorous Ladies of Wresting. It’s fun, hilarious and such a great story. The characters are great, the actors are fab and the show is super glamorous. It’s like the Call on Me video as a Netflix series.
I’m so excited about this new upcoming series of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance which was one of my favourite films EVER when I was growing up. I still find it scary to this day. I honestly can’t wait to watch it.
