Well I’ve not had much screen time in the last month but I somehow managed to fit a a hell of a lot into my schedule. I blame the long flights with no headphones and 2 x 9 hour bus journeys. There were a few films which were a giant waste of my life this month. Massive mistakes on my part and Netflix. Joint blame has to be shared here.
Firstly, the Breaker Uppers which is a New Zealand comedy with a promising story line but a type of humour I just didn’t get. Next is Isn’t it Romantic with Rebel Wilson who’s humour I love but the film was just awful and seriously predictable. Such a shame. Lastly, Triple Frontier…just a waste of life. I do love a war film but this was just dreadful and boring. Ben Afleck you’re just useless nowadays.
I’m not wasting another character on those films. Let’s talk about some shows and films which are worth watching. If you like any of the recommendations below, make sure you click on the links to add them straight to your Netflix list to watch later:
I’ve got a massive soft spot for a Witch/Werewolf series. There’s something that keeps drawing me back to this new Netflix series which I can’t quite put my witchy finger on. Is it the modern day setting? The current teenage no BS humor? The weirdly attractive long haired lead? I’m not sure…but I love it!
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Where is this child!? Seriously! This topical documentary has made this story hit the headlines again. 11 years after the disappearance of Madeline McCann, we’re still looking for her and wondering where she went? Netflix have shared a lot of information about her disappearance I didn’t know when you think you knew everything. I don’t know what to think anymore.
Yasssssss!!!! The Fabulous 5 and our gays of thrones are back with another series of Queer Eye. I’d give my left ass cheeky for them to do a make over on me, inside and out. This show give me all the feels and I learn quite a lot from it. This series I learnt about the buddy system which is a great technique for social anxiety.
RuPaul Drag Race
Start your engines! Ru Paul is back with more queens to strut their stuff down the runway in fabulous designs, throwing shade left right and center, throwing wigs, spilling the tea and lots of attitude. I live for this show. It makes me howl with laughter and it’s just what I need right now. With top A list celebrities dropping by to judge every week too! Now shay away to adding this onto your Netflix list.
I thought this was a film. Nope it’s a 6 part series. A 6 part series amount mourning a loved one who passed from cancer. Not a great selling point till you add Ricky Gervais into the mix who somehow brings a little light humor to a terrible topic on how to move on with one laugh at a time. Warning: Dry sense of humor required.
Turn it Up Charlie
I had low expectations for this series, sorry Idris. However, it turns out…it’s freaking hilarious. Who knew? It’s great to see Idris Elba in a comedy. Normally, he’s playing a dark (as in mood!), moody, bad ass but this show shows his in a fun and light-hearted side which doesn’t get a lot of screen time. Now we have 8 episodes of pure Idris banter! Thanks Netflix!
APRIL ON NETFLIX
There’s a few stand out films and series coming out in April which I’m really looking forward to. Firstly it’s the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Part 2. I loved the first series with it’s dark twist on the family classic from my childhood. The Christmas special wasn’t too bad either. I’m looking forward to more magic this month from the Spellmans.
Next is Our Planet with more high definition shots of our beautiful planet with the perfect voice over from Sir David Attenborough. Another show for all you nature lovers is You VS Wild with our Bear Grylls, following on from the Bandersnatch type film with optional choices to create you story and ending. Keeping Bear Alive and to see if you can survive in the wild.
Lastly, something cheesy. YES! The Perfect Date is our top romcom to look out for next month. Need something cute and cheesy in my TV schedule asap since the threw Legally Blonde back onto Netflix and got me a taste for it all over again. Bend n Snap!
