It’s award season! My favourite few months in the film calendar. The formula to an award winning film seems to have fallen into a pretty obvious pattern. Either set it in the past, the longer the more chance or winning or base it on some historical figure. Either way, your in with a shot of a nomination. Me, I just love a good story, that’s all I care about.

The Favourite

Set in the 18th Century during the reign of Queen Anne, this film is set around the Queen’s health, temper and eccentric character. Starring the fabulous Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz, this elegant, dark but generally witty comedy, drama is set to make noise at the awards.

Personally, the weird GoPro/wide angle shots are throwing me on this one. The filming style should match the story era. Not expecting black and white but the GoPro shots do look a bit out of place.

Keira Knightley is back in her element with this period drama. Portraying a young ghost writer who writes a popular book for a man crediting it as his own. Bringing to light creative, women and LGBT rights, this story is going to be a popular film for a lot of people.

Approximate release date 9th January

Mary, Queen of Scots

Saoirse Ronan tried her hand at winning another Oscar by playing the complex character and story of Mary, the Queen of Scots. This fascinating character who was Queen by 16, widowed by 18 and led an army at such a young age is a strong role but will the story be as good as the actress?

Approximate release date 18th January

This is the film I’m the most excited to see this month. The next installment of the Unbreakable series. Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis and James McAvoy make the perfect trio as they finally all get together for this next installment of this modern day superhero / villain movie. Move a side Marvel!

Approximate release date 18th January

The Front Runner

After reaching Global success with The Greatest Showman, Hugh Jackman steps away from the musicals and tries his hand at another drama, with potential to win him a nomination or two?

About a popular candidate for the Presidency election in 1987 came crashing down after allegations emerged he was having an affair. If you cheat and lie to your wife, doesn’t exactly make you the perfect candidate to run a country. Maybe that’s how we can take down Trump??? Start a rumour quick!

Approximate release date 25th January
