Unlike the movies of 2018, next years most anticipated movies are nicely spread out throughout the year. Nearly every month I have something exciting to look forward to at the cinema as well as that moment my paycheck hitting my back balance at the end of the month. Same type of excitement.
Next year, we have a bunch of new Marvel films (shocker!), live action Disney (inner child screams with containable excitement) and some highly anticipated musicals (cartoon and live action but who cares – other than my fellow film critics, that was for you). It’s going to be an epic year of fantastic film. Let’s dive in!
I’m a huge fan of M.Night Shyamalan. Some of his movies like, Signs, Sixth Sense and the Village are my absolute favourites. Glass which is a follow on movie from Unbreakable/Split series.
No one could have predicted it and seeing Bruce Willis reprises his role as David Dunn at the end of Split, not even me which was nice little surprise. For one, I was in shock and let a massive out loud “NO WAY“…which turned a few heads.. Seriously, that happened. Hence why no one will go to the cinema with me anymore.
What a trio of characters and actors! Shyamalan has made his own Universe and stolen all the best A-list actors for himself. Nicely done. Decent shotgun rules going on there.
Approximate release date 18th January 2019
The never ending X-Men franchise is back with possibly the darkest part of the comic series. These films became slightly ridiculous and money hungry rather than entertaining a few movies back for me. However, I am dying to see this movie.
Jean Grey “Phoenix” is one of my favourite Marvel characters and this movie looks epic. She’s got this angry, dark, rage which is like me when someone steals my chocolate out the cupboard or the day before my period, or the two combined (there goes my male readership).
Approximate release date 14th February 2019
Longest wait for a Marvel character EVER!!! The next installment to the Marvel / Avengers plot is on the way with a new character in tow. In the end credits to Infinity War we saw Nick Fury call for Captain Marvel before getting dusted (not in that sense). This film will be all about her back story and hopefully a small insight to her role in End Game. Assuming she’s not dust too…
Approximate release date 8th March 2019
Hello Big ears! The first of many live action Disney movies is on the way! Starting with the love-able big eared elephant called Dumbo. Isn’t he cute! Considering one of the biggest films of last year was set in a Circus, this film has some good footing already. However, it also has to make a big impression to set the tone for the next films Disney has coming up. No pressure.
Approximate release date 29th March 2019
AVENGERS: END GAME
IT’S FINALLY HERE!!! All the waiting, conspiracies, plot theories (unless you’ve got the comics to hand) will finally be over. We’re going to find out how the story ends and if the Avenger’s save the Universe. Seriously…they have to right?
Approximate release date 26th April 2019
Will Smith takes on the iconic role of genie of the lamp in the next live action Disney remake. I’m really excited about this one as it’s one of my absolute Disney favourites but only because I was and still am a massive fan of Robin Williams.
Like everyone else, I’m very worried about how Will Smith will play this legendary character but intrigued….very intrigued. If it’s a massive fail, there’s another live action Disney movie waiting in the wings…THANK YOU, NEXT!
Approximate release date 24th May 2019
TOY STORY 4
The toys are back in town! Last time we saw Andy leaving his toys behind with a new kid called Bonnie. The toys go on an epic road trip (Bonnie doing a great job of looking after her new toys there) and are set to be reunited with some old friends and some new ones included a spork made into a toy? WTF is a spork?
Approximate release date 21st June 2019
SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME
Well….Spoiler Alert….Spider-man must be making a comeback after a dusty ending in the last Avengers movie to have a whole new sequel to his own franchise. What do you do after you come back to life after you save the world…go on vacation with your friends. PAAAAARTAAAAY!
However, Spidey bumps into a new enemy during his vay-cay in Europe. There are worse things to happen on holiday…*cough* Ryanair *cough* Drones at Gatwick *cough* Your mother *cough* Whoops sorry mum!
Approximate release date 5th July 2019
THE LION KING
The last live action Disney movie of the year and taking of the prime Summer Blockbuster weekends is one of the biggest movies of our time. Lion King is getting a fresh CGI look, new voice overs and a new direction. Yes, this is a classic that should have been left alone…but….this one has Beyonce! BEYONCE!?
Approximate release date 19th July 2019
IT: CHAPTER TWO
Set 27 years later after the Loser Club took Pennywise down the first time round, the devilish clown is back causing chaos. I hate clowns. Hate them. I watched the first movie on DVD (couldn’t handle a large clown on a cinema screen) but I had to stop it a lot. I’ll need backup for this next one.
True story, my hockey team were going to go out dressed as clowns for Halloween once and I told them there was no freaking way I was going out dressed as a clown or surrounded by them, so they changed the theme. Hate clowns.
Approximate release date 6th September 2019
Great…another clown. However, this film is starring one of my absolute favourite underrated actors Joaquin Phoenix, who takes on one of the most mentally tormenting characters of our time. I’d have nightmares too if I had to play a clown to be fair.
The DC Universes final push to make a decent movie and has a new joker (again) to go with it. I have high hopes for this movie.
Approximate release date 4th October 2019
They just can’t let it go! Sorry. After the massive success of the first movie, Frozen is back for a 2nd helping (of money). Maybe even a winter wedding? Personally, I’d rather see the play. Now that looks magical. I’m sure this movie will bring more songs to torment the older generation for another year after it’s release. Yay.
Approximate release date 22nd November 2019
STAR WARS IX
The next installment of the Star Wars franchise is upon us from a Galaxy far far away. From the sacred Jedi text I hear Mark Hamill is set to make a return despite his disappearing act in the last film. Jedi Nerds rejoice!
Approximate release date 20th December 2019
Now this is what I’m excited about next year. Like millions of us, I loved the musical and I can’t wait to see the theatrical version. This is going to be the perfect Christmas flick and the perfect way to end the year.
Approximate release date 20th December 2019
