Not just romcoms have the power ballad moments to capture a great love scene moment or crippling heartbreak. All the movies below have picked the perfect songs to match the moment, tone and the characters emotions which will give you all the feels. Get the tissues ready as some these songs will serious pull at your heart strings.
This post may contains spoilers to old films but that’s just due to where the songs are placed in the movies.
“(EVERYTHING I DO) I DO IT FOR YOU” BY BRYAN ADAMS
In Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, when Robin Hood and Maid Marian kiss for the first time, but the boat leaves and Duncan the blind man ruins the moment…
“I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU” BY WHITNEY HOUSTON
“REWRITE THE STARS” BY ZAC EFRON AND ZENDAYA
From my favourite movie in years The Greatest Showman where Phillip from high society and trapeze artist Anne try to work out there feelings amongst the tightropes of the circus.
“SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW” BY ISREAL “IZ” KAMAKAWIWO’OLE
“MY HEART WILL GO ON” BY CELINE DION
This Titanic theme song is the Ultimate Move Love song of all time and Karaoke torture for years to come.
“DON’T YOU (FORGET ABOUT ME)” BY SIMPLE MINDS
“BOOM CLAP” BY CHARLIE XCX
“SOMEONE LIKE YOU” BY VAN MORRISON
The single girls go to romcom movie for an instant pick me up. The Bridget Jones franchise brings hope to a lot of girls and if not hope, certainly a lot of laughs.
“I’LL BE” BY EDWIN MCCAIN
A Cinderella Story is my guilty pleasure movie. Totally cheesy but this scene just puts the cherry on tops covered with sprinkles whip cream and all the added extras you would want from a movie.
“NOW THAT WE FOUND LOVE” BY HEAVY D & THE BOYZ FT AARON HALL
Will Smith is more of an Action man nowadays or trying to get an Oscar from a powerful drama performance but we did get one cheesy rom com out of him with Hitch. Personally, I would love to see him do a Hitch 2 or another romantic comedy.
“CLOSING TIME” BY SEMISONIC
Friends with Benefits is a super cheesy romcom with a ridiculously cheesy ending. A flash mob in the middle of Grand Central Station to get the girl. It’s amazing what you can do when your the Creative Director of GQ Magazine.
“SHE” BY CHARLES AZNAVOUR
The King and Queen of Romantic Comedy team up to bring us the incredible Notting Hill. British guy meets American movie star, fall in love and live happily ever after. Indefinitely.
“I THINK I LOVE YOU” BY LESS THAN JAKE
A totally random pick for the list. It’s not even a romcom but a truly cheesy and disguising display of affection in Scream 2. Horrifying but cute.
“COME WHAT MAY” BY EWAN MCGREGOR AND NICOLE KIDMAN
Moulin Rouge was the first Album I ever bough. I remember watching it in England then going to buy it when I went to America the following week. Still an epic soundtrack and great movie.
“THIS YEAR’S LOVE” BY DAVID GRAY
The Girl Next Door is one of a kind. It’s a great high school love story and most boys fantasies come true. A porn star living next door.
“PORCELIAN” BY MOBY
Whenever I hear this song, I want to book a one way ticket to Thailand. The Beach is the ultimate runaway to Asia movie. Sun, sea, sand and Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s not always a person you fall in love with, it can be a place too.
“KISS ME” BY SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER
One of the best love scenes from a high school romcom in history. FACT. The staircase scene in She’s all that is ALL THAT!
“YOU MAKE MY DREAMS” BY HALL & OATES
There’s one scene in this movie which is just EVERYTHING. Yes, that’s right. The scene after he finally gets laid in 500 Days of Summer. Hilarious.
“COLORBLIND” BY COUNTING CROWS
This scene probably isn’t the main scene that springs to mind when you think of Cruel Intentions. However, this love scene where Sebastian finally falls in love and Annette finally looses her virginity is a turning point in the movie and this song is perfect.
“I DON’T WANT TO MISS A THING” BY AEROSMITH
“CAN’T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU” BY FRANKIE VALLI AND THE 4 SEASONS
My favourite moment in any romcom is when Heath Ledger sings to Julia Stiles in 10 Things I hate about you in the American Football field. I’m not one for public displays of affection but this one gets my every single time. Must be the comedy and humiliation factors. Still cute though.
