It feels like yesterday when I was making this list for 2017. How quickly has the year gone? I feel a little disappointed with the lack of movie originality for 2017. We’ve had back to back sequels and remakes. 2018…looks exactly the same. There’s also a massive lack of decent films to look forward to once summer ends. However, there’s a few stand out exceptions which everyone will be eager to see. Marvel are set to overshadow the year again but I am also looking forward to strong female leads dominating our cinema screens. Let’s do this!

A small start to the year. OK. No more bad jokes. I love that the year is starting with a Sci-Fi film. This film looks amazing. Such a great original story line. Matt Damon and Kristen Wiig are set to make a great comedic pairing in this futuristic drama. The year is starting off well.

Approximate release date 19th January

The 3rd installment to the frisky franchise. Hopefully, it will be more exciting than the 2nd film which was a bit of a let down. I didn’t read the books so I had a fresh perspective on these movies and enjoy the dark story line so I can’t wait to see this risque couple tie the knot.

Approximate release date 9th February

Here’s my girl! I’m a huge Jennifer Lawrence fan. She’s a great actress and such a down to earth person off screen. No, I haven’t met her. I wish. She’s also hilarious. This film looks a darker and raunchier version of Angelina Jolie’s “Salt“. It’s got potential to be a great thriller for 2018.

Approximate release date 2nd March

Speaking of Angelina Jolie. Here’s a remake she won’t be starring in. The Tomb Raider is making a comeback but with Alicia Vikander taking the lead as Lara Croft. I love a great action adventure. The trailer looks pretty good so I just hope the story line doesn’t ruin it.

Approximate release date 16th March

I wasn’t on my radar till Casey Neistat spoke about it on his channel. Casey has some big Hollywood friends and surrounded by creative movie makers. He gets a great scoop on new films. Great source. He also has good judgement being a creator himself. Take one look at this trailer and you’ll be on side. It might even look a little familiar for anyone who’s an 80’s kid.

Approximate release date 30th March

You might remember this film from the classic 1980’s arcade game. However, if there’s a remodel or remake involved then there’s one main man called in to do the job. That’s right Dwayne Johnson is taking the lead. The Rock loves regurgitating movies. Hopefully, he won’t ruin a movie that holds lots of childhood memories for me and my fellow 80’s kids out there. Jeffrey Dean Morgan from the Walking Dead is also starring in this film which gives me hope it won’t be too dreadful.

Approximate release date 13th April

Possibly, the biggest film of the year. This film is set to break records with not just the original Avengers coming back to the franchise but bringing ALL of the Marvel comic favourites together for the first time. This is what we’ve been waiting for. Finally, we’re merging all the films into one massive monster movie. We’re talking Spider-man, Antman, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and even the Guardians of the Galaxy. MONSTER MARVEL MOVIE!

Approximate release date 27th April

Speaking of Marvel films. Here’s one character who wasn’t invited to the Infinity War Party. Poor Deadpool. Unless, he has a secret cameo we don’t know about yet. How amazing would that be?! Due to the overall success of Deadpool’s first movie, it was a dead certainty that Ryan Reynolds would be putting on his favourite red leotard again. Personally, I can’t wait for the promo’s and marketing poster’s.

Approximate release date 1st June

Another remake! Yes, Ocean’s Eleven is getting revamped. Hopefully, not in the same style as Ghostbuster’s did. However, this does have more promise. Eight ladies take the leads on this movie. I think Pitt is a bit busy and Clooney is now married up. We do have some pretty big leading ladies taking this film on. Such as, Cate BlanchettDakota FanningAnne HathawaySandra BullockRihannaMindy KalingHelena Bonham Carter and Katie Holmes. That’s one hell of a cast! Not to mention the return of Matt Damon.

Approximate release date 22nd June

Pixar fans rejoice. Something for our inner child. There’s something about Pixar films which makes it great viewing for children and adults. Marvel may think they might be dominating the year with their movies but this original family superhero movie might give them a run for their money.

Approximate release date 13th July

Disney is set to dominated Christmas sales next Christmas by bringing us a Dark version of the Nutcracker Story. Mackenzie Foy from Interstellar takes the lead in this movie along side a star sudded cast such as Keira KnightleyMorgan Freeman and Helen Mirren. Created by the makers of this years “Beauty and the Beast” and last year’s “Jungle Book” this is looking like another record breaking movie.

Approximate release date 26th October

Away from the big stuff, you want to look out for these!

    Natalie Portman-starring ‘Annihilation’
Frances McDormand in ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’
Plus… The New Mutants, Mission: Impossible 6, God Particle, maybe Venom and Jamie Lee Curtis returns in Halloween!

And a new TV show called ‘Castle Rock’ which is on Hulu in the States but based around the ‘world’ of Stephen King, I think it’ll be pretty decent.

Excellent! Some good shout outs. Honestly, the MI films just don’t cut it anymore. I think they should have stopped a while back. The new mutants film, I’m not really sure of either. Think I’ll wait for the next trailer.

The anticipated movie releases are honestly the best thing about a New Year. I can’t wait for The Incredibles 2 especially (I’ve been waiting forever for a sequel) and I think Deadpool 2 is going to be great too. Not too sure how I feel about some of the releases yet but we’ll soon see..
