It’s Christmas!!!! We’ve finally rolled over into December! Time to get my Christmas Jumper on, pour some hot chocolate, put my feet up and grab the TV remote! I love Christmas movies, so here is my top 10 festival movies to watch this Christmas!
THE SANTA CLAUSE
HO HO…OH? This film is filled with festive fun and laughter! Tim Allen plays a divorcee, Scott Calvin, who is looking after his son at Christmas. He find himself accidentally getting a new job…Santa! The original Santa falls off the roof and Scott puts on the Santa suit which secures his new role as Santa against his wishes. This is a great story filled with magic and drama. Starting a new job isn’t easy!
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! When I get home, I’m getting a CAT scan!”
If you haven’t seen this film, where have you been! It’s one of the Britain’s most famous Christmas movies! This is the first film to have several stories which interlock unexpectedly at different points. It’s filled with great British actors who bring different Christmas stories to life within one movie. It’s one of the best Romantic Comedy Christmas movies you’ll watch this Christmas!
“We’ve been given our parts in the nativity play. And I’m the lobster.”
THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
This is not your average holiday film! This is an outstanding animation by Tim Burton who brings a twist to a standard Christmas movie. This film is about Halloween Town, which is filled with occupants from your deepest nightmares to create a spooky Halloween every year in the real world. Their leader gets a bit bored of doing Halloween every year and wants to take over Christmas. Kidnapping Santa and bringing destruction to our favourite holiday season. Filled with great animation, music and characters, this film is one of my favourites. It has some catchy songs in it too!
“There’s children throwing snowballs instead of throwing heads! They’re busy building toys and absolutely no one’s dead!”
Ever gone on holiday and thought you’d forgotten something? Probably a phone charger or an item of clothing. At least its not your child! This is one of the first Christmas movies I remember watching as a child and has been a tradition watching it every Christmas ever since. It’s a great family film and a 90’s classic! It’s one of a kind…other than the many sequels that followed! It’s got a lot of memorable quotes that you’re bound to recognise and lots of kids adventure traps. Top Movie!
“Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animal!”
HOME ALONE 2: LOST IN NEW YORK
Oh look….a sequel! This is the only sequel in this list and for a good reason. Not many films can match up to an original classic. This one does! Kevin finds himself alone in New York…seriously what’s wrong with these parents! This is one of the movies that started my lust for America and desire to travel to New York. One giant adventure around the Big Apple showing lots of touristy highlights which will enhance your cravings for wanderlust! Poor Kevin but he still had a great time living it up in the city that never sleeps with his dads credit card. Dad would never trust me with his credit card…I don’t think he has one. Well that’s what he told me!
“You can mess with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas.”
This is a comedy horror set around Christmas. An american father buys his son a Mogwai for Christmas called “Gizmo”. Yes, a Mogwai, a classic Christmas gift? Oh America! Mogwai’s come with longer instructions than assembling IKEA furniture. Who needs instructions for a pet? So all the rules have been disregarded pretty quickly. Poor mistreated Gizmo spawns creatures called Gremlins who run havoc around the neighbourhood. This was a scary film when I was little but now it’s just hilarious! Something different to your average Christmas holiday film! Remember Mogwai’s aren’t just for Christmas!
JINGLE ALL THE WAY
I love Arnie in this movie. He does comedy movies very well and its a shame there’s not more of them. In this movie he is frantically trying to find the most popular toy of the year…on Christmas Eve! So glad I don’t have kids yet! I must admit I am a late shopper myself and by everything a few days before the big day. This film completely over exaggerates the agony of Christmas shopping! Filled with fun and adventure. I hope my future kids want simple accessible presents for Christmas!
“This can’t happen. It’s just a doll. It’s just a stupid little plastic doll.”
Probably one of the only films my family can agree on and watch together! Yes, its a romantic comedy but there’s a great travel aspect which I love. It’s about 2 women who swap houses for the holidays. One lives in Surrey, England and the other in California LA. I know which house I would prefer to live in! All in order to get away from men…but that’s not as easy as it seems. Those men…there everywhere…shocking! However, it’s all for the better which makes this a heartwarming movie this Christmas.
“Arthur, I’ve been going to a therapist for three years and she’s never explained anything to me that well. That was brilliant. Brutal, but brilliant.”
MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL
OK. This is a massive Childhood favourite and I’m not ashamed at all. There’s a lot of Scrooge movies out there. About 5 I can think of at the top of my head but this is my favourite. I love the Muppets, always have. Jim Henderson puts on a great reenactment of this historical story for all ages. It’s a lovely family movie which will ensure to make you giggle this Christmas.
“I fell down the chimney and landed on a flaming hot goose!”
MIRACLE ON 34th STREET
This is my favourite Christmas movie of all time. I must have watched it every Christmas without fail. Santa is real people and he’s a store Santa in New York! He’s the real deal but obviously some people think he’s a bit nuts when he tells people he’s the real Santa. He befriends his managers family who try to prove he’s the real Santa. I believe! This film truly makes me feel Chrismassy and festive. From the Thanksgiving day parade to the Christmas shopping at Cole department store. This film is filled with Christmas spirit!
“Well, I would greatly like to oblige, Mr. Collins, but I cannot make this reindeer fly. He only flies on Christmas Eve.”
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!
